The Cambridge Society, Singapore was inspired by the fundamental goal of the University's 800th Anniversary Campaign - to secure Cambridge's edge in excellence for the future. Having benefited from the unique privileges of a Cambridge education, our aim is to build a strong and active community of Singapore/Singapore-based Cantabs, with an interest in giving back to the University - whether directly through fundraising, or indirectly by spreading its good name through community service and thought leadership in philanthropy.

The Cambridge Society is deeply honoured and thankful for the support of its official patron, Minister of Foreign Affairs George Yeo.

Our Goals

The Society undertakes to:

  • Build a strong platform for interaction among alumni and current students : Specific projects include establishment of
    1. an alumni database with automatic enrolment of current students;
    2. a Society website;
    3. a regular calendar of events, including a focal annual social event, that provide members with the opportunity to interact and collectively further the goals of the Society; and
    4. a Commemorative Book for the 800th anniversary that would contain personal photographs, anecdotes of friends and times in Cambridge, and what Cambridge means to alumni today, for Singapore-based Cambridge alumni.

  • Organise financial and non-financial resources of the Society and its members with a view to making distinctive, innovative and sustainable contributions to the University and local community. The idea here is to move beyond traditional charitable giving, to projects where involvement by Sgp Cantabs (e.g. needs identification, innovative solution proposals, finding appropriate partners/sponsors, as well as direct participation) would generate unique value. The main mechanism we currently have in mind, is what we've tentatively named, the Society's Social Ventures Portfolio.

  • Raise funds in support of the 800th Anniversary Campaign and beyond. The Committee aims to secure monetary sponsorship from various philanthropic, corporate and government-linked organisations in Singapore, as well as individual contributions from High Net-Worth Individuals ("HNWI") with links to Cambridge University. This will be in addition to funds raised through the gala dinner and special sale/auction of autographed copies of the Commemorative Volume.
